The The Delhi HC set aside the order of the Controller of Patents and Designs, upon an appeal being filed by Raytheon Co. u/s 117 of the Patents Act, 1970. The Controller had previously refused to award the Patent due to a lack of inventive step. The Controller observed that in the patent application, there was an absence of novel hardware along with the software. The patent application concerned High-Performance Computing (HPC), which is used by scientists and engineers to model, simulate, and analyze complex physical and algorithmic processes. The appellant contended that the grounds of refusal stated by the Controller were in accordance with the outdated Computer Related Invention Guidelines (CRI) 2016. The appeal was granted, and the HC ordered the Patent Office to re-examine the application in accordance with the applicable guidelines and rules.

PayPal filed a patent application for a system that would allow the transmission and trade of NFTs within its network last week. This fintech firm intends to build an entirely new system that will permit off-chain transactions using NFTs in a market platform for cost optimization and increased transfer speed. This system will also provide a number of digital wallets linked to the NFT marketplace that will provide these services. PayPal customers can use fiat currency or other cryptocurrencies to buy and sell NFTs. PayPal’s early move could be due to the fact that many fintech businesses are joining the NFT market.
